About Us
Karuna Mind Care Foundation is a dream project of Dr. Amitabha Mukerji (Son of Dr. Karunamoy Mukerji), Senior Consultant Psychiatrist, practicing for last 35 years in Kolkata. He was greatly inspired and motivated by Swami Vivekanada’s “shiv gyan ey jeev er seva” & “Bahujan Sukhaye Bahujan Hitaye” philosophy!
This idea was implanted in his mind by his father since childhood. Keeping this idea in mind, he founded KMF few years back to specifically serve the Senior Citizens to aid and improve their psychological well-being. Because of socio-economic and various other reasons, the joint family system has collapsed and has given birth to the concept of nuclear families and now ultra-nuclear families. As a result, senior citizens are increasingly becoming lonely and psychologically insecure and helpless.
Karuna Mind Care Foundation was finally formed and registered as an NGO in the year 2016.
KMF started working with these senior citizens and started a Self-Help Group few years back. Once a month, meetings are organized to exchange ideas, discuss viewpoints & problems with other members so that they can share, care and empower themselves psychologically.
They also get involved in various cultural activities e.g. Reading, Writing stories, Poems, Singing, Reciting poems etc. Everything is done with an aim to make them happy and less lonely.
Future Plans
KMF further plans to take up social service activities e.g. visiting Old-age homes and spending quality time with residents. We also plan to distribute clothes and gifts during the festival season to the poor and neglected senior citizens by way of collaborating with other agencies and sponsors.
One of our other future initiatives is envisaged to collaborate and network with other NGOs working in this field and exchange ideas with them. We also plan to organize Annual Get-togethers and Cultural programmes and have these Senior citizens participate.
